How We Ranked Them
We evaluated each app on: ovulation prediction accuracy, data input options (OPK, BBT, CM, symptoms), algorithm transparency (do they tell you HOW they predict?), privacy policy, free vs. paid feature split, and user interface quality.
1. Premom (Best Overall)
Free tier: Excellent. OPK photo reader (scans your test strip and quantifies the LH level), cycle tracking, community. Paid: $9.99/month adds BBT integration, advanced analytics, and personalized insights. Why #1: The OPK reader is genuinely useful — it removes the guesswork from “is this line darker?” Syncs with Easy@Home strips (which we recommend anyway). Best for active TTC.
2. Fertility Friend (Best Data Nerd App)
Free tier: Good. Full charting, BBT, CM, OPK logging. Paid: $6.99/month for advanced pattern recognition and chart comparisons. Why #2: The most data-rich app. It uses your actual inputs to predict ovulation rather than just calendar math. The interface looks like it was designed in 2008 (because it was), but the algorithm is the most accurate in independent comparisons.
3. Natural Cycles (Best for BBT Tracking)
Paid only: $8.99/month or $89.99/year (includes a thermometer). Why #3: FDA-cleared as a birth control method, which means its algorithm has been clinically validated for accuracy. You take your BBT every morning and it tells you if today is a green (infertile) or red (fertile) day. The prediction accuracy improves the more data it has. Best for committed BBT trackers.
4. Flo (Best for Beginners)
Free tier: Period tracking, basic predictions, health articles. Paid: $9.99/month for advanced cycle analysis and AI chatbot. Why #4: The prettiest interface by far. Great for someone just starting to track. But the ovulation predictions are largely calendar-based (not input-driven) in free mode, making them less accurate than Premom or Fertility Friend for active TTC.
5. Clue (Best Privacy)
Free tier: Period and symptom tracking. Paid: $9.99/month for predictions. Why #5: Clue is a German company, subject to EU GDPR data protection. They’ve been the most transparent about data practices post-Dobbs. If privacy is your #1 concern, Clue is the safest choice. Prediction accuracy is middling.
Active TTC + OPK user: Premom. Data maximalist: Fertility Friend. BBT-focused: Natural Cycles. Just starting out: Flo. Privacy-first: Clue.
